SRI Y C V REDDY AUTHOR and CRITIC (1926-1989)

Sri Y C V Reddy is a rare and eminent poet, critic, writer and progressive research scholar in the field of Telugu Literature.

Sri YAMMANURU CHINNA VENKATA REDDY is better known as Y C V REDDY. He was born on 26.3.1926 to Smt. Lakshamma and Sri Konda Reddy who hail from benevolent and charitable Yammanuru family in Bonala, a remote village of the erstwhile Pulivendala taluq of Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh.

He started his career as a humble clerk in the Kadapa Z.P. for a short period and resigned due to political reasons and his progressive preferences.

He was the founder of a literary publishing house by name YUGA SAHITHI SAMITHI and released the journal 'SAMVEDANA' for the period of 1968, 1969, edited by RA RA (Rachamallu Ramachandra Reddy).

He was an articulate author of high literary works such as 1. Tholakari Chinukulu 2. Menaka 3. Rambha 4. Sindhura rekha 5. Dhakshina Nilamu 6. Rayabharam 7. Selakhanne 8. Vaijayanthi and 9. Parijatham. He also wrote a volume of short stories titled "Gatti Ginjalu".

Distinctive qualities about him were his criticisms and analysis of other had a literary merit of their own works. He was exceptionally genius in using and popularising local slang and adages that reflect the life and behaviour of the people of that area in which he lived.

He never aspired to or aimed at high literary ambitions. He was a relentless in bringing into the limelight young and dedicated debutante writers and to bring out the best out of them.

He served as District President of "ARASAM' (The Progressive Writers Association) of Kadapa district until he breathed his last on 08.10.1989, while he was participating in ARASAM's literary debate at the Vivekananda Hall, Municipal High School, Kadapa.

Although he is not now with us in physical sense, his writings have left the indelible and eternal stamp on progressive minds. It is now our bounden duty to pay our tributes by making his works and ideologies known to everybody.
